About Us

NORTHERN GHANA BAPTIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, TAMALE

History

In 1955, Rev. This can be used control key to help you get more descriptive information in relation to book of ra casino. D.C Carter started the Dagomba beginner’s school with few Leaders (Young men) who showed interest in reading the Bible. The school developed into Tamale Baptist Pastors School in 1961. The initial teachers were Rev. and Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Taylor from Texas, USA, and then Mr. Adediran and Mr. Alasade from Nigeria. The students later brought their wives so that they can also be taught. Through the reading of the Bible, their wives became Christians. When Rev. Carter retired in 1965, Rev. Foster became the head of the school.

In 1970, Deacon Ralph Davis succeeded Rev Foster as the principal of the Pastor’s school. Deacon Ralph Davis headed the Pastor’s school until his retirement in 1985. In 1970, it became necessary to change the name Baptist pastor’s school to Baptist Training Centre to train various kinds of church leaders. As time went on, people were asking questions on what type of training the centre was offering to students. Because of these questions, The Ghana Baptist Convention found it necessary to change the name again to Baptist Pastor’s Training Centre in 1999 to accurately describe the type of training offered.

After the retirement of Rev. Ralph Davis in 1985, Rev. Billy Montgomery succeeded him as the principal of the Centre. After his retirement in 1988, Rev Stephen Holloway came from USA and succeeded him until 1994 then Rev. John Salifu Napadow became the Principal. He led the school from 1995 to 2005

This school evolved from Leadership training to give pastoral training to those who felt called into the ministry, hence the name Baptist Pastors Training Centre. This included vocational training for the men and their wives who were enrolled in the school. At the 40th Annual Session of the Ghana Baptist Convention, which was held at Ejura from the 20th to 24th August 2003, the house approved the upgrading of the Baptist Pastors Training Centre into a Seminary, now Called Northern Ghana Baptist Theological Seminary (NGBTS) to meet the growing training needs of our Churches. In the same year the Ghana Baptist Mission handed over the property and administration of BPTC to the Ghana Baptist Convention. We currently run Diploma in Ministry, Certificate of Theology, Certificate in Pastoral Ministry and Literacy Courses.
